When normal cells divide, they do not exceed the range of tissues or organs, but cancer cells are cells that have lost their normal procedures. Therefore, cancer cells invade other organs along with the blood or lymphatic system. When cancer cells spread from the original site to other tissues or organs, this phenomenon is called “metastasis.” The characteristic of cancer cells is that when new blood vessels are formed, the growth rate of tumors will increase rapidly. Various experimental observations have proved that when cancer cells are injected with fucoidan, their growth rate is inhibited, effectively preventing the chance of tumor growth and metastasis. In July 2004, in the “Twelfth International Conference on Immunology” held in Canada, researchers published related papers, which proved through experiments that fucoidan can inhibit the formation of vascular endothelial cells in the human umbilical cord. It is also pointed out that both the fucoidan extracted from Mozuku and the fucoidan extracted from Mekabu spores (Mekabu) have the effect of inhibiting the formation of new blood vessels in cancer cells.
